Parkersburg police said they are conducting an investigation after a man was allegedly viewing child pornography at the Parkersburg Public Library.
Detective T.P. Wolfe, a computer crimes investigator, received a call at 4 p.m. Friday from an investigator with the West Virginia Office of Information Securities and Control, an office that monitors Internet traffic at public libraries, according to a news release from the Parkersburg Police Department. The investigator said child pornography was being viewed at the library on Emerson Avenue.
Police said numerous Parkersburg detectives immediately converged on the library, quickly detaining a Parkersburg man for questioning. Following an interview at police headquarters, a search warrant was executed at his north Parkersburg residence.
Wolfe is currently examining and processing all of the evidence, including items obtained during the search warrant, which will determine if charges can be filed against the suspect, police said.
The man, whose name has not been released, is currently in custody on unrelated charges.
