Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has appointed Democratic Delegate Samuel Cann to fill a state Senate vacancy created when Joe Minard became Senate clerk.
Cann was elected to the House of Delegates in 1994 and is the senior member of Harrison County's legislative delegation. In announcing the appointment Wednesday, Tomblin says he's confident Cann will continue his hard work as a state senator.
The 12th Senate district includes Harrison, Lewis, Gilmer and Braxton counties.
Minard, a Democrat, resigned his Senate seat after being elected clerk last week to succeed the retiring Darrell Holmes.
