A Hurricane Middle School student won the county spelling bee.
Robert Webster, an eighth-grader at the school, captured the champion title Thursday.
The competition was held at the Putnam Career and Technical Center.
Webster went up against champions from more than a dozen elementary schools and four other middle schools to win the bee.
Rebekah Dimsdale, a fifth-grader from Lakeside Elementary, placed as first runner-up.
Webster and Dimsdale will represent Putnam County in the regional competition that takes place in March. The two will compete for a chance to attend the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
