Kanawha County deputies arrest a man they said broke into an Elkview home and made off with electronics.
The burglary happened about 12:30 p.m. Thursday at an an apartment on Wise Acres Drive in Elkview, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office said homeowner, Kevin Ray Madison, found Brett Alan Yates, 27, also of Wise Acres Drive, inside his home. Madison tried to detain Yates, but he managed to get away, deputies said. Deputies caught up with the suspect a short time later, in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
Deputies said once Yates was arrested, he told Deputy M.D. Dickerson that he had broken into the apartment and stolen several electronic items and that he came back for a second helping, when the homeowner caught him.
Yates had already taken the stolen items to a house on Bigley Avenue in Charleston, the release said. Deputies recovered a tablet computer and other items at that home.
Yates is currently in South Central Regional Jail, awaiting arraignment.
