BUCKS FOR BRAINS Marshall University Uses Up $15 Million Bucks For Brains Allocation

Marshall University has used up its $15 million allocation from the state for available matching research funds.
The Bucks for Brains program was established by then-Gov. Joe Manchin in 2008 to promote world-class research at the state's leading universities.
The Legislature set aside $35 million to support research at West Virginia University and $15 million at Marshall. The schools had until 2015 to raise matching funds. WVU reached its goal last year.
Marshall said Wednesday its fundraising goal was met through a donation from Allied Realty Co. The $150,000 donation will support the Marshall Institute for Interdisciplinary Research and the university's College of Fine Arts. Since 2008, Allied has donated a total of $450,000 for research at Marshall.
Marshall's Bucks for Brains program has resulted in 16 new research endowments.
