Funerals Held For Children Who Died In Jonancy House Fire

Funeral services were held Sunday for the four children who died in a tragic house fire in Jonancy, Ky.

Dakota, 5, Tyler, 4, Cheyanne, 2, and Emma, 6 months, Wilfong died Jan. 9 in a fire that also killed their father, William.




The four children who perished in a house fire in Jonancy, Ky., will be laid to rest Sunday.

The funerals for the Wilfong children is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at Valley Elementary Virgie Campus Auditorium. Dakota, 5, Tyler, 4, Cheyanne, 2, and Emma, 6 months, died Jan. 9 in a fire that also killed their father, William. Visitation will be held at the Hall and Jones Funeral Home at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators believe the fire was caused by a space heater. The children's mother, Tammie Tucker, was badly burned in the fire and was released from the hospital earlier this week.

The funeral arrangements for William Wilfong has not been released at this time.




A mother who was severely burned in a house fire that killed her four children and their father was released from a Kentucky hospital on Tuesday.

Tammie Tucker was the only survivor of the blaze and suffered from severe burns. The fire happened last Wednesday in Jonancy, Ky. Investigators believe a space heater where the family was sleeping caused the fire.




A donation fund has been set up for the family involved in Wednesday's house fire that claimed five lives.

Family members say the victims did not have any form of insurance policy.

People wishing to donate can do so through any U.S. Bank through the Tucker - Wilfong Memorial Fund.


A mother who was severely burned in a house fire that killed her four children and their father was in serious condition Thursday at a Kentucky hospital.

Tammie Tucker was being treated at University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington where she was in serious condition, the hospital said. A family member, Stephanie Tucker, said she believes her sister is improving.

Investigators said the family members were sleeping in the living room near an electric space heater.

The children's father, William Wilfong, and the children, Dakota, Emily, Tyler and Cheyenne were killed.




The five victims who died in an eastern Kentucky house fire have been identified as a father and his four children.

William Henry Wilfong was killed along with his four children in the blaze that broke out early Wednesday morning on Elswick Branch Road in the Pike County community of Jonancy near the Virginia border. James Tucker, the grandfather of the four children, told Eyewitness News their names were Dakota, Tyler, Cheyenne and Emily. Their ages ranged from six months to 5 years.

The mother of the children, Tammie Tucker, was injured in the blaze. She has been flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where she is listed in critical condition as of Wednesday afternoon. Relatives said the mother managed to get out of the house and ran to the grandfather's residence nearby to get help and call 911.

At the scene, emergency officials removed the bodies from the home from a single room where they were found. The house had nearly burned to the ground, with only the foundation walls and the chimney still standing.

The grandfather told Eyewitness News the single-story house did not have a lot of heat sources and relied on an electric space heater or a couple of space heaters to heat the central part of the residence. The family all slept in one room.

Kentucky State Police said the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

The adult male who died in a fire that also killed four children in eastern Kentucky has been identified as William Wilfong.

Kentucky State Police said there has been no positive identification of the victims who died in a blaze in eastern Kentucky, but an agency spokesman said an adult male and four children were killed in the fire.

Trooper First Class Tony Watts said he did not have any ages on the children who died in the fire that occurred about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. He said an adult female was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment.

Watts said the cause of the fire has not been determined, and investigators and detectives were at the scene.

The Pike County coroner said one adult and four children were killed in an overnight blaze in eastern Kentucky.

Russell Roberts confirmed the deaths to The Associated Press on Wednesday morning. Roberts said he could not give the ages of the people killed.

Officials said it began about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday along Elswick Branch Road in the Jonancy community of Pike County. Multiple fire crews responded to the scene.
