The West Virginia Public Service Commission likely will suspend a request by West Virginia American Water to hike water rates until the commission has a chance to review the matter, a PSC official said.
Susan Small, communications director for the PSC, said Wednesday that the water company had requested that the rate hike go into effect Jan. 13, but Small said it is standard procedure for the PSC to review such requests. She said the commission would have to review the request by Oct. 10.
West Virginia American Water's request would hike bills an average of $8 per month for each customer.
Small said she expects the commission will issue an interim ruling by Friday that would suspend the request until the PSC can review the matter.
