Logan , Logan County , West Virginia

West Virginia State Police are continuing to search for a murder suspect in Logan County.

Police have issued a murder arrest warrant for John Edward Dempsy, 37, of Man. Police believe he murdered an elderly man and then stole the victim's car. The car was recovered in the Rite Aid parking lot in Man, but police say, so far, there has been no sign of Dempsy.

Dempsy is accused of killing 88-year-old Grover Morrison of Logan. Morrison was reported missing by his family. Then, on Tuesday, they found the elderly man dead inside his home on Stratton Street.

Police are not releasing how Morrison was killed or a possible motive.

Those who knew Morrison say he was friendly but kept to himself. Bob Weisner says Morrison was well-known throughout the town, saying he often walked through Logan and was a long-time bank executive at the old National Bank of Logan.

"Just a very, very pleasant individual to talk to and when word got around last night as to what happened here it was just a shock to everyone," Weisner says.

Police consider Morrison armed and dangerous and believe he could still be in the Man area. Anyone with information should call police.

State Police said they have issued a murder arrest warrant for a man they are searching for in Logan County, and they have recovered the victim's car.

The search for John Edward Dempsey, 37, was being concentrated in the Stollings-Man area, and they were advising schools there to use their discretion about whether they wanted to go on lockdown, State Police said. Ernest Amburgey, assistant Logan County school superintendent, said schools in the area Wednesday were on alert, but they were not going on lockdown status.

Meanwhile, the vehicle of the victim, Grover Morrison, who was believed to be in his 80s, was recovered Tuesday night in the Rite Aid parking lot in Man. The vehicle was transported to South Charleston to the Criminal Investigation Division, where it was being examined for evidence.

State Police have not released the cause of death, but the body has been sent to the state Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

Dempsey is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds and is considered armed and dangerous.

Troopers are calling him the primary suspect in the investigation.

New details have been released in a Logan murder investigation.

State police say Grover Morrison, a man in his 80's, was found dead inside his home at 605 Stratton Street on Tuesday evening.

State police will not say how he died, but they do suspect foul play and have launched a murder investigation.

The victim's car is also missing from the home.

Troopers say they have several persons of interest and have questioned at least one person, but say no arrests have been made.

Police are investigating a homicide in Logan County.

It happened on Stratton Street in the City of Logan. State Police say a man was found dead, they are not saying how he died, but say foul play is definitely involved.

Logan City Police and State Police are currently on scene. Eyewitness News has a crew headed to the scene, we will continue to update you on this story as more information becomes available.
