Charleston police arrested a man on drug and fleeing charges who they said refused to pull over and was then apprehended after a foot chase.
Christopher R. Rush, 27, of Charleston was charged with possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine, fleeing in a vehicle and fleeing on foot Wednesday, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
Cpl. J.L. Doughty said he was on patrol when he was following a sport utility vehicle that was traveling on Kanawha Boulevard East and the driver refused to pull over even though the officer used his siren and public address system. He said he saw the driver throw something out the window. At East Pointe Drive, the driver exited the vehicle in the middle of the road and ran north on East Point Drive into the woods, the complaint said.
A canine unit from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office responded and an officer located a suspect matching the description riding a bike with flat tires in the Piedmont Road-East Point Drive area. The complaint said the suspect was arrested, and police seized $900 from him. Police said they also found two separate bags that were thrown from the vehicle that contained 1.5 grams of marijuana and 3.2 grams of cocaine base.
