A new mom and dad welcomed their new bundle of joy into the world this New Year's Day.
Kristen Adkins and Timothy Kirby welcomed Serenity Kay Kirby at 5:05 a.m. at CAMC Women's and Children's Hospital in Charleston Tuesday.
Serenity is the Kanawha Valley's first baby born in 2013. She came in at five pounds and 14 ounces and 19 and a quarter inches long. She came to a surprise as her parents because she wasn't expected to arrive until January 23.
Adkins and Kirby are from Danville in Boone County.
Her father chose the name Serenity, which means "peace." They're hoping they can take her home soon to join her three siblings.
