Strong winds caused a number of power outages in West Virginia, with Appalachian Power reporting it had more than 2,200 customers out in the Mountain State.
The company's website said Thursday that the counties without power were Fayette, 629 customers; Greenbrier, 122, Kanawha, 247; McDowell, 435; Raleigh, 350; and Wyoming, 428.
At the peak of the power outages, 9,500 Appalachian Power customers were without service.
A company spokeswoman told the Beckley Register Herald that the power failures were caused by strong winds that moved through the area early Wednesday morning.
The company said it is using its own crews, contractors from other states and AEP crews from several other states to help restore service, the newspaper said.
