A homeowner was charged with arson after police obtained a recording that allegedly has the suspect admitting he set the residence on fire and collected on the insurance settlement, court documents said.
Christopher L. Mayes, 32, of Ona was charged with arson on Thursday, according to a complaint filed in Cabell County Magistrate Court.
The home caught fire on Nov. 16, 2011, on Fudges Creek in Ona. The West Virginia State Fire Marshal investigated the incident.
