Saying Makayla Clark and her family had a rough year would be an understatement.
But with the holidays here, the Clark's show what the true meaning of family, love, and Christmas really is.
"Six weeks ago, she was pretty much not going to make it," said Makayla's mother, Kay, "And to bring her home for Christmas has just been wonderful."
For the past six weeks, thousands of people have been cheering on 17-year-old Makayla Clark.
Makayla has been battling a life threatening illness at a hospital in Cincinnati.
But just in time for the holidays, she was able to make it home to spend Christmas with her family.
"Well I'm going to have Christmas here with my family," said Makayla, "It's nice together."
All together, outside of the hospital, and home for Christmas.
"It's a miracle for Christmas, a true miracle," said Kay, "And to have all my kids with me at Christmas time, it's been wonderful."
The Clark family has not only had to deal with Makayla's medical struggles, but they also just suffered a personal loss.
Makayla's father died recently after collapsing at the hospital where she is being treated.
"My dad, he died, he passed away," said Makayla, "I miss him so much."
And this Christmas, the Clark's come together to support each other and remind themselves what it means to be a strong family.
"Everybody should always love their family, enjoy each other," said Kay, "Because you never know what's going to happen from one year to the next. Someone may not be there with you. But we are going to make it."
