With wintry weather finally hitting West Virginia, many spent Thursday preparing for the worst.
We haven't seen a heavy snow since October. And now with the busy holiday travel, there is a lot of concern that snow could hinder travel plans.
Road crews have been busy preparing for the storm so you can stay safe.
"Today we are getting ready for it. We're making sure chains are ready, generators are ready," said maintenance engineer RJ Scites, "We're checking the trucks making sure all the lights are working and getting the plows loaded."
The snow is set to start falling around midnight Thursday, which will keep crews busy working 12 hour shifts to keep those roads clear.
And it's not just the roads that could be effected by the snow. Yeager Airport crews are ready to take on this wintry weather.
"Even with snow, we're prepared for that, if we do get snow tonight and tomorrow," said Rick Atkinson, airport director, "We'll have our crews out clearing the runway."
And patience will be key for travelers during this holiday season,.
"Just have the spirit of the season and be patient," said Atkinson.
But for those who plan to be the roads, Scites has a motto you can follow.
"Just remember, ice and snow take it slow."
