Nearly two dozen workers at a steel plant in Lawrence County, Ohio, will be laid off just a week before Christmas.
Chatham Steel in South Point will lay off 18 to 25 employees. The exact number of layoffs will be determined by whether some people accept job changes. One employee will be transferred to another position, and three others have been offered jobs within the company, a company spokesman said.
Division Manager Doug Zornes said the reason for the layoffs is due to the downturn of the economy and the struggling coal industry.
