Officials are investigating the death of worker who was installing a natural gas pipeline in Brooke County.
Media outlets report that crews were using heavy equipment to lift a 120-foot section of pipeline about 7 p.m. Sunday in Bethany when it swayed into another piece of equipment and crashed through its windshield and struck the operator.
Authorities said the worker died at the scene, off state Route 67. They have not released the man's name.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and other agencies are investigating.
The death occurred the same week as a massive gas pipeline explosion in Sissonville that leveled homes and charred a section of Interstate 77. Federal authorities are investigating that explosion.
