Police said a Logan County woman was arrested on multiple charges after she allegedly stole items from Walmart, fled from the store and was found hiding in a dumpster.
Heather Lee Johnson, 37, of Lyburn was charged Sunday with third-offense shoplifting, obstructing, fleeing and possession of a controlled substance, according to a criminal complaint filed in Logan County Magistrate Court.
Logan police officers responded to the Walmart on Dec. 6 after receiving a report about a fleeing shoplifter. When they arrived, they conducted a search and located a suspect who fled. The suspect was found in a dumpster at the Bob Evans restaurant, the complaint said.
The suspect got out of the dumpster after being ordered by police, and one of the officers observed a cut straw fall from her bra, police said. The suspect became belligerent when she was escorted back to Walmart. Police said she began acting like she was having a seizure and said she was having a heart attack. The suspect was taken to Logan Regional Medical Center, where she refused treatment and was taken back to the police department for processing, the complaint said.
Police said the suspect allegedly stole about $375 in merchandise from the store. The complaint said the suspect was observed loading merchandise, including a television, into a shopping cart and fled when she was approached by a store security officer.
