Some in Southern Ohio are fired up after a cash only drug clinic opens up in the exact spot where a pill mill was raided and shut down.
Selfrefind opened a clinic in Portsmouth this fall at the site of the former pain clinic on Old Scioto Trial. Michele McCarthy, spokeswoman, assures that the clinic is legal.
McCarthy said in no way does Selfrefind operate like a pill mill. She said it actually treats addiction.
"We primarily treat opiate addiction," McCarthy said. "People are treated by people who are certified and the patients also are treated with counseling."
The clinic provides prescriptions to Suboxone, which treats withdrawal symptoms.
Critics say Suboxone clinics keep people on the drug too long without extensive counseling.
Company officials say they're taking extra steps to assure residents they are not a pill mill in disguise.
