Several groups gathered at the West Virginia Capitol Monday to urge U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin to protect West Virginians from “fiscal cliff” cuts.
The West Virginia AFL-CIO and other groups held a news conference to unveil a petition asking Manchin to protect tax policies and program funding state residents depend on as the “fiscal cliff” deadline approaches and major legislative decisions are made to address it, according to a news release from organizers of the event.
The petition urges Manchin to oppose any funding cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security and supports letting Bush-era tax cuts for wealthy Americans expire. The petition also calls for preservation of tax cuts for middle class and low-income families.
