A man was arrested Friday morning at the Best Western in Charleston after a fire broke out there.
Michael Carter, 43, was charged with arson and attacking and injuring firefighters following an incident that happened about 9:20 a.m., authorities said. They believe he is from somewhere in New York.
The suspect apparently barricaded himself in the room after the fire and smoke were reported at the hotel at 1010 Washington St. E. He was staying in a room on the seventh floor.
