Authorities said a man has been charged after being involved in a police chase that crossed two states and ended in a crash with a police cruiser.
Jonathan E. Beaver, 31, of Huntington was charged after an incident that started about 9:30 p.m. Thursday. The West Virginia State Police began to pursue a suspect in Henderson in Mason County, that followed into Gallipolis, Ohio, a news release from the Gallipolis Police Department said.
An officer from the city deployed "stop sticks" in front of the fleeing vehicle that left the front left tire deflated, the release said. After turning onto SR 7, the vehicle rammed into a city police cruiser, police said. The driver stopped by the Gallipolis City Park and surrendered to police.
Beaver was charged with fleeing and eluding and felonious assault of a police officer. There was also a warrant out of Mason County for operating a clandestine drug lab.
Several agencies assisted in the pursuit including the Mason County Sheriff's Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Gallia County Sheriff's Department.
