Kanawha County deputies are searching for two people they said robbed a man.
Deputies said James Lovett, 18, of Rand told police he was standing along Davidson Avenue in the Rand area about 10 p.m. Thursday when a newer model blue Ford Focus stopped in front of him. Lovett said two black males got out of the vehicle, placed him in a "bear hug style" restraint while the other suspect took his wallet and MP3 player, then took off. Lovett was not hurt and no weapons were used in the robbery.
Both suspects were described as black males in their early 20s, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds.
Deputies said one of the suspect's hair was styled in dreadlocks and he was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white sweat jacket. The other suspect was reportedly wearing black jeans, a black jacket and a white baseball cap.
If you have any information that could help in this investigation, call the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office at 304-357-0169.
Deputies said thefts like this one are already on the rise this holiday season and they want to remind members of the public that thieves know people are purchasing gifts and are looking for a quick grab. They urge you to hide gifts and other purchases out of sight and use common sense to make sure you don't become a victim of theft.
