Hardly anything remains of a home on Limeberger Creek Road in Poca after fire ripped through the house Sunday morning.
"When we first got here it was a fully engulfed structure. Smoke coming out every window, flames coming out the front side of the house," said Poca volunteer firefighter, Franklin Bragg.
It took firefighters from Poca, Bancroft and Nitro to put the fire out.
The cause is still yet to be determined.
The man who lives here was inside at the time of the fire, but luckily he made it out safely.
"We had a lot of smoke showing, a lot of flames shooting. The occupant was able to get out," said Becky West of the Poca volunteer fire department.
Firefighters say the man was asleep on the couch and woke up with just enough time to escape.
He was fortunate because firefighters say he did not hear his smoke detector going off.
"[He] did have a smoke detector inside but he did not hear it going off. Upon our arrival we did not hear it either. Usually he do hear these things if we get here soon enough. But we did not hear it," said West.
A life spared, but his home could not be saved.
"It is totally lost. Everything there, there's nothing left to salvage in there," said West.
