Charleston police said a Cross Lanes man was arrested after he allegedly fired a handgun in the Capitol Street area near when an officer was on patrol in his cruiser. Blaine Jerome Ivory, 30, was arrested and charged with wanton endangerment, being a felon in possession of a firearm and obstruction following an incident that occurred about 3 a.m. Friday, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court. Cpl. S.M. Webb said he was on patrol in the 200 block of Capitol Street near Club Impulse because the club was closing and there were groups of people leaving the bar. He said he heard a shot and saw a gray Dodge Magnum run the red light at Quarrier and Summers streets. The officer said the vehicle eventually stopped on the sidewalk near Spyros parking lot on Capitol Street, and he said he heard what sounded like a gun skidding across the pavement just outside the passenger’s side window. He said he saw a handgun on the sidewalk, and the officer ordered the suspect out of the car. Another officer assisted in the arrest and was able to pull Ivory from the vehicle, the complaint said. Webb said police found a bullet next to the driver’s side door on the sidewalk where the suspect was pulled from the vehicle that matched the caliber in the magazine that was thrown from the car. A check of the suspect’s criminal history determined that Ivory was convicted of wanton endangerment with a firearm in 2011 and was sentenced to Mount Olive Prison for two years, the complaint said.
