The victors of the 2012 AA West Virginia football championship were honored on Monday. Members of the Wayne Pioneers were celebrated at the high school for their big win. The No. 1 ranked school beat Keyser High School in the championship game on Friday with a final score of 35-0. Sudents were given plaques, and a highlight reel of the team's successful season was shown. The team's coach is proud of his players and is thrilled with the support from the community."It hasn't sunk in yet, until you see the people that supported you. When times weren't going well, those are the people you want to celebrate with," Coach Tom Harmon said. The Pioneers also won the 2011 championship title. Students and the community are showing their school pride as the Wayne High School football team heads to the AA state championship game. A pep rally was held at the high school for the football team Thursday afternoon. Members of the team made a stop at Lavalette and Wayne elementary schools to visit their younger fans. Then, students and community members gathered to rally behind the team that won the championship last year. "It means a lot to have the whole community behind us. It's unbelievable that everyone is behind us like this," senior James Egnor said. The championship game in Wheeling is Friday, and Wayne will face the No. 2-ranked Keyser High School squad.
