The Regional Jail Authority is investigating 15 correctional officers at the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville for abuse and contraband allegations.
After 10 days of incarceration at the WRJ, Joshua Conley is a free man. But he says he'll always remember the way inmates were treated behind the walls. "I've been here twice now. Some of us don't do anything, but if they don't like you they mistreat you."
The Jail Authority began investigating the correctional officers two weeks ago. Now, 15 are suspended. The Jail Authorities Executive Director, Joe DeLong says he's concerned about what he calls a buddy system among guards at the WRJ. "I don't place a lot of distinction between the person in our facility who did something wrong and the person who witnessed something wrong being done and did nothing about it."
DeLong says the investigation should wrap up next week, then, appropriate actions will be taken.
