There were hugs, kisses and tears all around at Yeager Airport, as six West Virginia National Guard members finished their long journey home from Afghanistan.
"It's undescribable," Senior Airman Colin Grant said. "As soon as I turned the corner right there and saw all these people and I heard my mom's voice and I saw my daughter my heart just started going about a thousand miles an hour. It's a feeling that...it's an incredible feeling to see all these loved ones and family members we have here."
The troops from the W.Va. National Guard 130th Security Force spent their half-year tour of duty at Bagram Air Base, performing security sweeps and patrols, which included time spent outside the wire. Those are missions that take them off base and into the heart of danger.
"Just worried," Sharon Grant, Colin's mother said. "Just didn't know what was going on over there. And making sure that he stayed safe and missing him. And make sure he ate good."
Now it's time for catching up. Thanksgiving dinners with family and friends and a Christmas season spent not in a foreign country, but in their own homes.
"Oh, it's a complete 180 from where I was," Colin Grant said. "Now I am here it's relaxing, very relaxing."
