A man was charged with kidnapping after police say he held three people hostage with a gun.
Michael P. Crawford, 34, of Cincinnati was arrested Thursday in Scioto County, Ohio. Portsmouth police responded to a home in the 2400 block of Scioto Trail after a report that a man had a gun and was holding people against their will, a police report from the Portsmouth Police Department said.
Officers arrived at the house and saw a woman through an upstairs window and alerted her that police were on the scene, the report said. Two women and a man climbed onto the front porch roof of the home while police checked the area. The three were taken off the roof by a ladder truck from the Portsmouth Fire Department. Police were able to arrest a suspect and located a gun inside the home. Witnesses told police they believed the situation was over drugs, the police report said.
Crawford was charged with three counts of kidnapping. He also was later charged with a weapons violation because he had a prior robbery charge.
