The wishes of 11 children diagnosed with life-threatening conditions will be granted thanks to a $40,000 donation from Tudor’s Biscuit World. The donation to the Make-A-Wish program was presented Monday morning at the 217 Lee Street Tudor's location in Charleston, according to a news release from Make-A-Wish. Thanks to the efforts of Tudor's Biscuit World customers and employees, more than $24,500 of the $40,000 was raised from our annual October fundraiser to grant the wishes of seven West Virginia children. Throughout the month of October, Tudor's Biscuit World customers were invited to purchase a $1 "pumpkin" in support of Make-A-Wish. To energize the fundraiser, Tudor's held a companywide contest with prizes for the locations that raised the most money. Its Marmet and Smithers restaurants were the high sellers, raising $3,431 and $5,760. Tudor's of Dunbar had the greatest increase over last year, selling 1,428 pumpkins. There was a special guest at the event to help make the presentation, Jacob Fleming, a 3-year-old from the Smithers area who was granted his wish this past summer to Disney World in Florida. Pam Prince, the boy’s grandmother, said, "The trip was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and the Give Kids the World Village took such great care of us. Without Make-A-Wish, Jacob would have never had this experience. He loved every minute of it." Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia is a nonprofit organization that grants wishes to children, aged 2 ½ to 18, with life-threatening medical conditions. Currently, the local chapter is one of the most active in the country, having fulfilled more than 13,000 wishes.
