Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department has risen from the ashes.
Two years after an electrical fire destroyed the department, they now have a new place to answer the call.
"Took a lot of work, a lot of leadership," Kanawha County commission member, Dave Hardy, said, "And it all came together. And this is one of the nicest volunteer fire departments in the state of West Virginia."
The members of the fire department were certainly knocked down, but not out.
And with help they rebuilt.
That help came from the governor, the county commission helped, the community helped, and even corporate donors helped restore the fire station.
"People came out of no where, just you know, five bucks here, a dollar here," said fire chief, Tim Gooch.
And one of those who helped was Joshua Shaffer, a young boy who gave his piggy bank to help the department.
Joshua's donation was something that kept the members of the Sissionville Volunteer Fire Department from giving up hope.
"This little boy with his all $45 come and just melted our hearts because you know it was his life savings," said Gooch.
And with that $45 and an additional $1.2 million, members can now protect their community out of their new Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department.
It's more than just a building, trucks, and equipment for Gooch.
"Now we've got something we're proud of that's gonna last another 50 years. And I can't hardly keep from crying from that either."
