Kanawha County sniper Shawn Lester was in federal court Wednesday, where he pleaded guilty to gun charges again.
Lester entered a guilty plea for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for handling a gun while being addicted to pain pills. Lester recently withdrew this same plea, which put his state plea deal in question for second-degree murder in the sniper case. U.S. District Judge John Copenhaver was not satisfied with the federal plea agreement because it recommended that his federal sentence run at the same time as his state sentence, so he allowed Lester to withdraw his plea and reconsider his options.
But Lester has now decided to plead guilty again. Families of the sniper victims were in court Wednesday and are pushing for the maximum sentence.
Lester will be sentenced on the gun charges Dec. 10.
