West Virginia residents have a fighting spirit, and they proved it in the ring in Logan County.
Standing-room-only crowds watched 56 fighters compete last weekend in the 25th Annual Coal Area "Original" Toughman Contest at the Logan High School Field House. The event was sponsored by Mike Ferrell Toyota-Scion, Suddenlink Media, Network WV, 96.1 The Wolf, ACME Bonding and Friends of Coal Miners.Net.
Organizers of the event released the results in a news release:
Heavyweight: Champion: Jared Steiner, 23, of Elkview
(185-400 lbs.) Runner Up: Matt Hizer, 24, of Foster
Light Heavyweight: Champion: Micah Mahon, 19, of McCarr, Ky.
(160-184 lbs.) Runner Up: Derek Dingess, 24, of Chapmanville
Middleweight: Champion: Ricky Vinson, 21, of Gilbert
(140-159 lbs.) Runner up: Raheem Norman, 18, of Logan
Lightweight: Champion: Kevin Wilt, 35, of Man
(Up to 139 lbs.) Runner Up: Michael Colman of Delbarton
Women Division: Champion: Chelsea Keathley, 20, of Willow Wood, Ohio
(140-159 lbs.) Runner up: Staci Spaulding, 21, of Man
Miss Ring Girl: Jennifer Comer of Hico
