A routine traffic stop ends with an Ohio highway patrolman shooting a man who allegedly ran from the scene.
Lt. Anne Ralston with the Ohio Highway Patrol says the officer pulled over a vehicle in the 1500 block of Chillicothe Street in Portsmouth around 8:30pm Friday for a routine traffic stop. She says that's when 26-year-old Chaz Taylor, who was a passenger in the car, jumped out and took off running.
Lt. Ralston says the officer chased Taylor. She says Taylor confronted the officer and that's when the officer shot him.
The shooting is under investigation, and at this time, it is unclear if Taylor was armed.
Taylor was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital, but has since been released. He is currently in the Western Regional Jail on an unrelated warrant.
