A big night for Huntington Tuesday and a big upset for incumbent Mayor Kim Wolfe. Councilman Steve Williams won with 60 percent of the vote.
Williams says, "Actually I'm remembering that this is much different than when you lose. Nineteen years ago I got my clock handed to me by Jean Dean and as good as this feels it's tempered because I know how low it can be and I also know the responsibility that I have."
Mayor Wolfe says he was disappointed with his loss but says when one door closes another door opens. "My love is for the city. I called Steve a few minutes ago and wished him well and anything I can do in the transition I will for him. But I'm ok. People told me the things that need to be done to the city you may be a one term Mayor because there are tough decisions that have to be made. I'm perfectly comfortable with that."
Mayor Elect Steve Williams plans to meet with Marshall University President Dr. Stephen Kopp Monday morning to discuss a future relationship between the city and the University.
The race for the position of Huntington's mayor has ended.
Huntington Mayor Kim Wolfe (R) conceded to Huntington City Council member, Steve Williams (D), during Tuesday night's election.
Throughout the campaign, the two have run a clean race. Wolfe and Williams reportedly went to the same high school.
