A Charleston firefighter is facing charges after he allegedly sped through a DUI checkpoint, led police on a chase and had to be taken down at gunpoint.
Winfield police said Grant Gunnoe Jr. drove through a DUI checkpoint on Route 817 near Winfield High School, nearly hitting officers.
Several agencies attempted to stop the suspect, but police said he continued speeding. Police said they were able to stop him just outside of the city limits, but he would not get out of the car. They said they had to force him out of the car at gunpoint.
Police said Gunnoe was three times over the legal limit for alcohol and asked for leniency because he is a firefighter. He has been charged with fleeing while driving under the influence and obstructing.
