It's been more than two years since fire destroyed the Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department, but a grand opening celebration for the new station will be held later this month.
The Thomas K. Johnson Fire Station is located at 383 Call Road. Chief Johnson was a founding member of the Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department who served from May 1961 until his retirement Dec. 31, 2011, said Thomas D. Miller of the Sissonville Fire Department.
A ribbon cutting is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 17. The ceremony will feature a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m., followed by flag raising, station tours and an up-close look at the new equipment. Refreshments also will be served at the opening.
The Sissonville station was destroyed in a fire Oct. 10, 2010.
