One of the big concerns from this storm is power outages. So far, there are only some minor power outages, even though the snow is falling and collecting on trees and lines. But power crews from other states are already in West Virginia on standby, while people are bracing for potential days in the dark.
"We had two trucks come in today, they brought bread and its gone again," Sharon Humphrey who works at Bradley Market says.
The Bradley Market can't keep bread on the shelves, but they've been careful not to load up on perishable items because during this summer's derecho the store was without power for seven days and lost everything.
That derecho, that left people in the dark for days and even weeks, is fresh in the minds of a lot of people who are now preparing for a possible repeat. Many shoppers say at least time they have warning.
"I've bought a lot of gasoline, probably 20 gallons, about 10 gallons of kerosene and my pellet stove, I've got plenty of pellets," James Collins says.
The power companies are also preparing.
350 trucks are on their way into Southern West Virginia from other states to assist Appalachian Power. The crews are in from states as far away as Texas. They are staging at the Beckley Armory and in Princeton so that the crews are in place and ready to go before the storm hits.
The storm has already brought heavy snow which is weighing down trees that have yet to shed their leaves.
