Charleston’s Mountain Mission Church and its faith-based charity arm celebrated their 86th anniversary Sunday.
The celebration brought back former church members who had moved away. The church on Seventh Avenue has an active social service branch. They are already gearing up for their annual Christmas food basket distribution and asking the public for help.
More than 700 families are already signed up and that number is expected to top 1,300 hundred as Christmas approaches, but the demand is year-round.
Charleston Mayor Danny Jones congratulated church members on their longevity and their work for the community at the dinner that followed services.
