It was a very somber evening at Man Middle School in Logan County. Friends, family, and the community gathered to remember 2-year-old Aydin Toler.
"He was a pride and joy. He was my first grandson. You know happy go lucky kid," says Aydin's grandfather, Daniel Walls.
Walls reflects on his memories with his first grandson, Aydin Toler, who died on Oct. 15 from head trauma. Police say the 2-year-old got those injuries when Nicolas Turkale, the boyfriend of Aydins mother, pushed Aydin against a door frame.
While still trying to wrap his head around those allegations, Walls remembers a toddler who was always affectionate toward him.
"Loved his pop pop and he loved, he loved everybody. He was a loving child. You know there was no sense in this happening to him. "
Neighbors in Man gathered to support Aydin's family. Mayor Jim Blevins isn't surprised by the turnout.
"Everybody knows the little baby. The boy's father is real young. They just., everybody knows everybody around here. It's just, just real nice for them to come out and do this," says Blevins.
The gathering is more than heart warming for Aydin's family.
"It makes me overwhelmed that everybody, I mean this should be a wake up call for Logan county about you know crime. And this, this is beautiful. I mean I love this. It makes me happy," says Walls.
Family and friends hope to find justice for little Aydin Toler.
Turkale has been charged with murder of a child by a custodian. And if convicted, he could face life in prison.
