A man is facing several charges after West Virginia state troopers say he wrecked a stolen vehicle and then assaulted an officer who responded the accident.

Jeremy Ryan Boyles, 27, was arrested following the wreck that occurred Monday on U.S. Route 60, according to a complaint filed in Cabell County Magistrate Court.

Boyles is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, no operator's license, failure to yield, obstructing, providing false information, two counts of assault on a police officer, two counts of battery on police officers and transporting stolen property into the state.

While investigating the wreck, state troopers in Huntington said the driver of a Dodge Avenger involved did not have identification. Troopers found the car was stolen from Georgia. When troopers tried to arrest the driver, he began resisting arrest, the documents said. Troopers said they had to use a baton and palm strikes to restrain him. During the struggle, an officer was allegedly struck and threatened by the suspect. The suspect told troopers he was kidnapped in Georgia and stole the vehicle to come to West Virginia to elude his kidnappers.

The wreck was found to be the fault of the suspect after he failed to yield to oncoming traffic as he attempted to enter on the Interstate 64 ramp, the complaint said.

Boyles is being held at the Western Regional Jail on $50,200 bond.
