There already are some spectacular views of Summersville Lake, but next year there will be one from a perch that will offer the views of views. Imagine the visual feast you could take in from the observation deck of a lighthouse that stands 104 feet in the air.
Visitors to Summersville Lake Retreat will be able to do just that when an actual working lighthouse is dedicated June 20, 2013, the day of West Virginia’s 150th birthday. Much work is still left to do on the lighthouse, but it was erected on the property on Wednesday.
“It’s going to bring more economic value to Nicholas County. It overlooks the biggest lake in the state,” said Donna Keblesh, who owns the campground with her husband, Steve. “The lighthouse has so many more views.”
Keblesh said two vocational schools, the Fayette Institute of Technology and the Nicholas County Career and Technical Center, have worked on the project. Building Trades also is lending a hand. Interior work, including the installation of handrails, flooring, an alcove and painting, still must be completed.
The campground’s owners have big plans for the lighthouse. It will be open for tours, weddings and other special events. Keblesh said there will be a $7 admission charge for adults.
