Volunteers have come together to help a Clendenin woman who needed repairs and improvements at her home.
Volunteers with Rebuilding Together are assisting Shirley Teal. She is taking care of her brother, who suffers from dementia. Volunteers are fixing her roof and building a wheelchair ramp. The nonprofit Rebuilding Together renovates homes for low-income homeowners in Kanawha and Putnam counties to make their homes warm, safe and dry.
For the past couple of years, the program has worked on about 200 homes per year. The group’s funding is primarily from private donations but due to the June derecho and poor economy, private donations have decreased nearly 25 percent. You can help by checking out the organization’s website at www.rebuildingtogether.com.
