A Ravenswood man was arrested after allegedly holding a gun against his girlfriend’s head and refusing to cooperate with State Police.
Todd Jennings Smith, 28, was charged Thursday with wanton endangerment, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, obstructing an officer and public intoxication, according to a criminal complaint filed in Jackson County Magistrate Court.
State Police said they went to a residence in Ravenswood after receiving a report that a woman was being held by gunpoint inside. When they arrived, they saw a male suspect, later identified as Smith, slam the front door, the complaint said. Troopers used an intercom on a cruiser to call for the suspect to come out, and the suspect broke the front window and turned the lights off on the camper.
A neighbor gave troopers Smith’s cell phone number and they spoke with the woman, Amanda Sue Miracle, on the phone, the complaint said. She told officers she was not in immediate danger, and she agreed to finally come outside. Smith and Miracle were told to get on the ground and were handcuffed.
Based upon the nature of the call, a Jackson County sheriff’s deputy spoke to a witness who had called 911 about the situation and said he saw Smith earlier grab Miracle by the hair, place a pistol to the back of her head and slam the door in the face of the witness. Authorities said they found two rifles and a pistol inside the residence.
