Charleston police have arrested a man who they say struck a dog with a baseball bat, dragged his girlfriend through the yard by the neck with a belt and threatened to kill her and her daughter.
Brent Seals, 22, of Charleston was charged with animal cruelty, second-offense domestic battery and child neglect creating a risk of bodily injury, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
The complaint said Seals and his girlfriend, Marie Tuttle, started arguing about 10:50 p.m. Monday at a residence on Stuart Street after Seals allegedly struck a dog repeatedly with an aluminum baseball bat. Seals then allegedly took a belt with a metal buckle and dragged Tuttle by the neck out into the back yard. The complaint said he made Tuttle’s 14-year-old daughter come out and watch and said, “You are going to watch your mother die tonight.”
Seals also are accused of piling clothing into a bathtub, soaking it with gasoline and threatening to kill Tuttle and her daughter.
The suspect is lodged in South Central Regional Jail.
