If you have them, don't smoke them in or around Cabell Huntington Hospital. The hospital announced it plans to go smoke free next month.
Josh Glover, a smoker, said there should be places for people to smoke. The clock is ticking for Glover if he wants to light up anywhere on the hospital's property.
"It's an inconvenience for anyone who smokes,” Glover said. “We should inconvenience them and tell them they have to go somewhere else to do whatever they do."
The signs are up – no smoking on the hospital grounds. It goes into effect Nov. 15. A hospital representative said the ban is an effort to protect the health of staff, patients and visitors.
Although smoking has been banned inside the hospital and medical center for years, designated smoking areas were created in 2011 as the first of a two-step process to eliminate tobacco use on campus.
An employee who remained anonymous said, "I think it's just going to make them more adamant to smoke and break the law or make it harder for them to try and find a place to smoke. That's what I believe; I don't know though."
Tammy Haney said it's the responsibility of the hospital to crack down. "It's a hospital, and it should have a right to say you shouldn't smoke because it's not a healthy lifestyle because we see people die every day."
Again, the smoking ban goes into effect Nov. 15, which is the Great American Smoke Out Day.
