From the first time you meet Blessing Eya, you know there is something different about her.
“It's really funny because I have an accent and when I meet people I say, ‘My name is Blessing, and I'm going to do this and that,’ and when I'm done they say, ‘Huh?’” said Eya, a clinical nurse with Dream Home Assisted Living.
It’s not just her accent. Eya has a special gift to care for the elderly.
“I had a passion to be a nurse even when I was a child,” she said.
Eya has lived in West Virginia for 13 years. She moved here in 1999 from Nigeria.
After working for larger health-care facilities, Eya decided she needed a change.
“Everyone deserves better, especially when they work all their lives, pay taxes, take care of the kids, take care of the grandkids,” Eya said. “This is the time for us to take care of them.”
In June, Dream Home Assisted Living opened in Cross Lanes. Eya is the clinical nurse at the home.
Eya said after living in the Mountain State for more than a decade, she has no plans to move back to Nigeria. She has brothers and sisters living there who she would like to visit.
“This is the best place to raise kids, and my kids love it here and I love it here,” Eya said.
Eya said she enjoys the ability to provide more one-on-one care for those living here. The home has five residents right now and plans to double that number by the end of the month. The facility has room for 20 beds.
If you are interested in learning more about Dream Home Assisted Living, there is an open house from noon until 6 p.m. Saturday. The address is 5257 Big Tyler Road in Cross Lanes.
