Parkersburg police make an arrest in the death of a 3-year-old boy over the weekend.
Matthew Edward Lamp, 29, of Parkersburg has been charged with death of a child by a parent, guardian, or custodian.
Officers said they responded to a home on 32nd Street in Parkersburg about 1 p.m. Saturday for a report of a child who had been seriously hurt, according to a news release issued by Sgt. Greg Collins of the Parkersburg Police Department.
The mother told police that boy was accidentally hurt while playing inside the home. The child was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown where he died about 3 p.m. Wednesday. An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday.
Lamp was interviewed at police headquarters Thursday afternoon and then charged in the incident. Police say Lamp is the reported boyfriend of the child's biological mother.
Lamp allegedly admitted to intentionally striking the boy, according to court documents.
He is being held without bond and could face 10 to 40 years in prison if convicted.
