A Putnam County park damaged by a wicked summers storm is getting a fresh start.
Cleanup efforts are underway at the Hometown Park to make it better than ever.
The park suffered extensive damage and was virtually destroyed during the derecho that hit the mountain state on June 29. Several large maple trees were knocked down and the parks two pavilions were destroyed.
Now volunteers with "Rivers to Ridges Heritage Trail" are cleaning up the park and Toyota has volunteered to plant new trees and do landscaping.
"Even though its small and modest, its a place for the kids to play and a gathering place for picnics and things like that," said project coordinator, Lowell Wilks.
Beginning next spring, work will begin to rebuild the pavilions and replace the picnic tables.
