West Virginia State University announced Wednesday that it has received a $1 million donation from an anonymous donor and will use the funds to provide scholarships and build a new athletic complex.
School President Brian Hemphill said $500,000 of the funds will go to scholarships and $500,000 will be used to build a new athletic complex near the football field.
In other news, the president said the school plans to build a new residence hall that will house 200 to 300 students. He said the facility is desperately needed because of the condition of existing facilities.
Also, the school plans to start renovations at Fleming Hall, where the university plays basketball, within days.
