Milton , Cabell County , West Virginia

The 27th annual West Virginia Pumpkin Festival is officially underway, and organizers promise it's bigger and better than ever!

"I love all of it," said James Breedlove, who's been coming to the festival from Boone County for years. "I like to look at crafts, and different stuff, and watch them make apple butter," he said. He and friend Patricia Antill are just a couple of about 50,000 other visitors at Pumpkin Park between now and Sunday. Antill said, "We just love all the arts and crafts and the food is good. We sample a lot! Everything's just great."

They can check out over a hundred artisan vendors who make everything from apple butter and molasses to woodworking and weaving crafts. Music and magic shows will keep people entertained, and maybe one of the biggest draws of the festival is of course the food! Festival secretary Barbara Brooks said, "The food is my favorite thing. I eat my way through the festival every year. We have pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin fudge."

Brooks tells us it's a small group who makes the festival happen every year, but all the hard work they put in throughout the year is worth it come October. She said, "It's for the community. We do it for the community. The kids, the whole family."

The festival is open from 9:00-9:00 Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and from 9:00-6:00 on Sunday.

Pumpkin butter, pumpkin rolls and pumpkin popcorn are just a few pumpkin-flavored goodies that will be available for the annual Pumpkin Festival in Milton beginning Thursday.

The event began back in 1985 and was designed to assist farmers with the raising and selling of their pumpkins, according to the festival's webpage. Now 27 years later, the festival continues to be one of the most successful in the mountain state.

The family fun festival is held at Pumpkin Park off of the Interstate 64 Milton exit. Hours for the festival are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Cost is $5, and children 5 years or younger and veterans get in for free.
